In October 2012 the publishing company «Blurb» had published my book in German language
“Lost Places – Die Sperrzone von Tschornobyl”.
The work on preparing the book for publication took about a year with a little. The project team had done a great work on translation and proofreading, editing of old and new photos, design, making-up of the book.
The book, which I now offer to readers, is a series of reports made by me during many years of my visits to the Chornobyl Zone. This book is addressed to all who are interested in the Chornobyl Zone and for whom the bare general information about the Chornobyl accident and its consequences may not be enough.
Here are my personal impressions about the Zone, photos and stories collected by me over many years of my trips and researches.
Most of these reports can be found on the site of the project Lost Places, but in this book each report was amplified with photos that have never before been published. In addition, the book is supplemented with new reportage of 2012.
Certainly, the great merit of that this book was published, belongs to international team of the project Lost Places. I am eternally grateful to: Natalya Khan – for the wonderful photos, editing all reports and for unprecedented struggle with my laziness and disorganization; Andre Friesen – for “tons” translated into German materials, for his friendly support and help to the project; Andre Albsmeier – for his hard work as the editor, for his perfectionism and attention to details; Roger Kappler – not only for his idea of this book, but for his firmly fought for the book’s publication, for his excellent designer’s work. The project team that worked on this book, not only gave their personal time and energy, but also put their hearts into making this collection. I thank them for this invaluable contribution and look forward to our new meetings in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, which united us.
My special thanks goes to the liquidator of the Chornobyl accident, my friend Yevgeniy Samoylov. This book has memories of Yevgeniy liquidator’s work in May – June 1986.
